Profile Mailers

Big Idea:

Direct mailing or marketing is an opportunity for your candidate to speak directly to their constituents.  It is also considered one of the most cost effective ways to communicate with your votes.

Why do direct mailers work?   Because people still check their mailboxes on a daily basis.  A profile mailer is also is about getting name recognition and biographical information to the voters.  It is not about the issues.

Instructions:

1.  Facilitator get the badges and make everything is cleaned up at the end.  Create a folder on the computer called West and save your file using your facilitator's name.
2.  Review the following PowerPoint file and do a know/need to know in your notebook.  Be sure to review the examples and tell me what you see.   Everybody should write in their notebook this know/need to know.
3.  Put together a written plan in your notebook.  Your reporter should include this in their notebook.
4.  Make a profile mailer on a computer using word (word only).
5.  Send me an email with the profile mailer. Please don't print it out. Create a folder on the computer called West and save your file using your facilitator's name.

Roles:

Facilitator:  (First person in ABC order by first name)
  • Make sure everybody is focused on the goal
  • Follow up to make sure all know the background of the candidate and district demographics
  • Ask me any questions
Harmonizer:  (Not counting the facilitator, it is the oldest person in the group)
  • Get consensus on who the person will be in all four groups
  • Make sure all group members agree on what is put on the mailer

Rule of Three:
  • Does the profile mailer include the basics (name, photos, campaign slogan, etc)?
  • Do I want to open up your mailer and read it?
  • Is it the most effective in meeting the expectations of name and face recognition and the biography of the candidate?
Questions: Facilitator see me if you have questions.
