Important Prom Vote: Descanso Gardens vs. Paradise Pier Hotel

Senior ASB and others visited a number of sites and checked out numerous sites online.  We are down to two sites.  See comments on this post for opinions from the students who saw both sites in person.  Please help us pick.  Your vote is due by Monday July 16th 3PM

How to vote?

Send an email to Purther at clay909@gmail.com and tell me which site you prefer.    Please also put your name in the body of the email.

(1) First Site:  Descanso Gardens (click here)

A few points:
  • It is about a $11,500 prom roughly
  • 5PM to 11PM on a Friday prior to 2-hour presentations;   We could arrange it on Saturday June 1st in the middle of 2-hour presentations
  • The photos don't show the site set up, we would have the indoor room and the front area with some environment or gardens.  You wouldn't be able to go into the main part of the gardens.

(2) Second Site:  Paradise Pier Hotel Grand Ballroom (click here)

  • It is about a $10,000-$10,500 site
  • 6PM to 12AM on Friday May 17th
  • The photos show chairs and tables.   We would have round tables, chairs, with a dance floor in the middle.

  1. Hey guys. I (Alissa) was one of the visitors of these two places, and I voted for the Paradise Pier Ballroom. I voted for it because the place was very clean and classy. Also, I felt that having prom in that space would feel a lot more like a prom, and not just another formal dance. I loved the Descanso Gardens location, but it seemed a little too rustic for our prom, and our use of the outdoor area would depend on the weather. It's a win-win no matter what people decide on, but I could really picture having a prom in the Paradise Pier ballroom. It felt magical.

  2. Hey guys, it's Cynthia, and I was also one of the attendees for the prom site visits. I cast my vote for the Paradise Pier ballroom, since as Alyssa mentioned it was clean and classy/professional, but I also felt that it was more spacious than the Descanso Gardens facility. The ballroom, had a beachy feel to it,(hence the name Paradise Pier), meanwhile at Descanso, the venue had an intimate, cozy kind of feel. The benefit of choosing Descanso would be that there would be an outside space to hang out while at Paradise Pier, we would be able to hang out in the foyer as the 3rd picture demonstrates. Either way, both of the sites were really beautiful, and it ultimately depends on what the class of 2013 votes for.

  3. Hey guys, Nick G here. I went to see both the potential locations, and I ultimately sided with the Descanso Gardens. It has a very nice atmosphere and a great outdoor area available for us to take a break from the music and food. Speaking of which, the menu at the gardens was incredible. Paradise Pier was nice, but I like being able to get out for fresh air. Plus, from what I've seen spending nights alone watching romantic movies, being able to look up at the stars with your romantic interest is pretty sweet. Either one's cool with me, but I think we'd enjoy the Descanso Gardens more.

  4. I greatly prefered the Descanso Gardens because of both the atmosphere and the dining menu. The menu was laden with luxurious food choices, and fantastic seafood dishes. I very much enjoy fine dining, and although I am certain that the menu at the Paradise Pier resort was indeed nice, I doubt that it included filet mignon or pan seared shrimp. The Pier, while nice, did not include an outdoor escape. Descanso Gradens has a large outdoor area, with heaters included. The area itsel is beautiful, and, for its price, an amazing deal.

  5. Gawen here. After visiting both places, I thought that both were very nice places to hold prom. However, I thought that both the menu and the outdoor aspect of the Descanso Gardens made it more favorable. The indoor hall of the Descanso was very nice and the outdoor atmosphere put it ahead. The Paradise is definitely more elegant, but the Descanso just had a more natural feel that I feel applies to our class more. I prefer the Gardens, but either location could make for a pretty sweet prom night.

  6. Hey guys its Marilyn and i was also one of the people that went to go and see the potential prom sites. My vote goes to the Disney Paradise Pier Hotel because I really liked the look more than the Descanso Gardens. As Cynthia and Alissa mentioned then the hotel was very classy and elegant and it looked a little cleaner than the gardens. Although the Gardens looked nice, i just feel that the paradise pier hotel would be better suit our needs. As far as the menus go, then both choices are equally the same because they offer many delicious entrees such as steak. The inside of both places looked nice but I felt that the paradise pier hotel had better lighting which could be dimmed if needed and was spacious. Ultimately the decision goes to the class of 2013 but both places looked beautiful nonetheless.
